Fun while it lasted

The 5-0-1 hot streak was fun.

But, with back-to-back losses where they scored one goal each game, the Sabres are back in 14th place in the East (well, tied for 13th with Tampa Bay is more like it....) and currently are sitting 4th in the pre-lottery draft order.

Sure, they are only 8 pts out of 8th in the East and they have a game in hand over the Leafs.

But, this team isn't making the playoffs regardless of what moves they make between now and the trade deadline.

Now is the time to sell the UFAs-to-be, perhaps move core guys that need to go for chemistry/leadership reasons [Roy & Stafford, I'm writing about you two], and get some young guys some NHL playing time down the stretch.

One season backward to move forward the next two seasons.

That's what I HOPE the Sabres do.

Bucky, Bucky, Bucky

Bucky Gleason says that the odds are against the Sabres landing Columbus captain/LW Rick Nash.

To that I say, Thank Goodness.

Nash is a really good LW. His stats and contract are in the Thomas Vanek neighborhood.

The last thing the Sabres need to do is give up a premium package in a trade for another Thomas Vanek. Now if Rick Nash were a center that could play with Vanek and Pominville, I'd be coming up with all the crazy trade package ideas that I could think of.

But, Nash doesn't make sense for the Sabres right now as a $7M+ LW is not going to make this team better.

And I definitely don't want the Sabres trying to get his teammate Jeff Carter. While he's a center, his issues are some of the issues that cause me to want the Sabres to deal away Roy & Stafford.
